What Is Your Favorite Rapper Feeding You? #poetry

What is your favorite rapper feeding you? /

Do you believe it’s true? /

Is it soul food?

Do they tell a truth that gets you in a mood? /

Is he good dude? /

Or a dope chick? One hell of a lyricist? Or the type to keep diamonds on top of their wrist? /

Perhaps it’s a conscious brother/ stealing all the information/ and leads a revolution with education/

Are they feeding you the facts? / and as a matter of fact/

Would they pass you the blunt if you were in the back/

Of the stage right alongside them? /

Are they as nice as Rakim and as sick as Eminem? /

Do they feed you the lie that they have no fear? /

That they have no cares? /

That they never shed tears? /

Which part of the art moves you? /

Is it lyrical content/ or lyrical nonsense? /

Are they on the payroll of the corporate forces? /

Recover from losses/ and considered bosses? /

If they have to cut checks to the banks they owe? /

Do they speak on shit that they don’t really know? /

Do they act a certain way when those cameras turn on? /

And act another way once those cameras get gone? /

Are they in the hood for real giving out hot meals? /

Are they in the hood for real showing off those wheels? /

Are they really about that life that they’re portraying? /

And does anyone really give a fuck? I’m just saying/

Are they really about that life that they’re portraying? /

Are they serious about their art or just playing? /

What is your favorite rapper feeding you? /

Do you believe it’s true? /

Is it soul food? /

Do they tell a truth that gets you in a mood? /

Is he good dude? /
Or a dope chick? / One hell of a lyricist? /

Or the type that’s quick to ball up a fist? /

Perhaps it’s a conscious sister/ standing ready to lead the nation/

Until her assassination/

Does she write her own songs? Or is there a ghost? /

Like it ain’t her show/ yet somehow she’s the host? /

Is she anything like you and is she respected? /

Or is being half naked/ the only way she sells records? /

Does she call herself a bad bitch and you agree? /

Are they a slave to a label or independent and free? /

Are they arrogant as fuck but they ain’t that nice? /

Would they put their hand up in a one on one fight? /

Is she on Instagram showing off stacks of money? /

Would she give you an autograph without looking at you funny? /

Is she a genius trapped in the flesh of a dime? /

Is she hot right now or was she once upon a time?

Or the type that’s not scared and takes artistic risks? /

I’m less concerned with your evaluation/

Than I am about starting the conversation/

New York State of Mind...

Location, location, location…

New York City.

I grew up in this city.

I left this city because the world was spinning too fast at the time. Now I’ve come back to make it stop. Life can throw you into a storm; on what was seemingly a very sunny day. I have learned to adapt to sudden changes.

Ironically... in this very city. I’ve reached a point in my life where I am once again, looking for myself.

I came to NY for a video project, but the more I walked the streets of Queens, Harlem and Manhattan… (Simply didn’t have time for the Bronx or Long Island) the more I considered living here once again. California has been a good look for me for a loOong time.

Sunshine is not the only reason I live there, trust me. However there is a sincerity I miss from the North east that isn't common place in the west. The kind of transparency I have not found anywhere else. A “tell you up front” attitude that appeals to my truth seeking nature. Will I move back? Just be on some artist sh*t and be “about that life” full-time? Who knows... It would be difficult for anyone to get me out of my lovely Roseville apartment. #flyshit
I would move to Harlem or Brooklyn if I did though. I would expand the collective as well. (Not to mention the team would consist of cats I’ve known since High school. Or do I continue in California? Change the game and bring organization, east coast hustle and perspective to the Bay Area and beyond?

Only time will answer this one…

How can I make your ugly beautiful?

How can I make your ugly beautiful? /

First I have to go to that ugly place/ put it in
verse and give it perspective/

Raw dog no contraceptive/ only to give birth to a beautiful truth/

My beautiful truth to be exact/ since we are all aware of the fact/ that your truth and my truth are probably not be the same/

One ugly is promoters and poets/ so eager to blow up in the game/

That they lose sight of their artistic vision/ blinded by the flashing lights of fame/

Trying to be P Diddy/

But you wouldn’t do an internship/ or take a train ride into the city/

You see there’s even an art to being a gangster for the paper/

Unwilling to put the work in/ counterfeit becomes the caper/

Without having any integrity for the creating process/

Investing in nonsense/ short money/ talking fast and sounding funny/

These big dummies/

Some create awards for themselves that don’t exist/

Some claim to be on the best seller lists/

Trying to get love from the fans

Ugly like a missed dunk from a player trying to be flashy/ who could’ve won the game with an assist/

What part of the game is this? /

You’ve done lost your mind thinking art is disposable/

This is a lyrical lobotomy to see if you have any brains left to view/

Ewww/

It’s ugly in there too/ all I see are thoughts filled with a slave’s mentality/

Every time I tell you “we’re free” you turn around and get mad at me/

Metaphorically and systematically trying to make slaves out of the rest of us/

Filing the game with mistrust and disgust/
Lust/ led you here to this ugly place/

You aren’t lusting for hot bars tho/

You’re lusting for sold out shows without buying in to the concept of practice, practice practice/

And it’s really okay if you happen to lack this/ caliber of skill to spring forward so your time falls back quick/

What good is fame and being in it/ if it’s only for 15 minutes? /

Minute 16… shows no traces of your career/ and I find it hard not to stare/ because the ugly doesn’t stop there/

Ugly is everywhere/

It’s at the open-mics sitting in the captain’s chair/

Making the dope spitters wait/ while mediocre verses fill the air/

I can go on and on/ hurting your feelings like I don't have a care/

But I have a job to do/ and remember/ this piece of art must turn your ugly into something beautiful/

Besides there are many things uglier than you not paying artist or offering vendor tables at venues/

There’s that ugly that hides inside the bold bluffs of the fearful/

Steady fronting like they’re prepared to be reckless/ but really being overly careful/

Knowledge of self was left behind on this trip/ so they can’t see themselves in the rear-view/

I understand they do not know any better/

And that’s why I over-stand you/

The fear of love/

The fear of pain/

The fear of not being a success/

Can make you see what isn’t there/

And make you fold under the stress/

But you promoters that rip off artist are the kind that live fearful but maintain composure/

That's why I took it to the street and parked the metaphors parallel so that this poet could expose ya/

Breaking you down like the pies you should've sliced for my fam who's art is their profession/

Now that the team ate/ every crumb on the pie plate/ let’s get right back to the question/

How can I make your ugly beautiful? /

Testimony is a start/

I observe your wicked ways/

Then turn them into my art/

A Beautiful Death

A Beautiful Death

A good friend of mine came to me in confidence and told me that he was sad to see me because he had a dream that I had died.

He said the dream was very vivid and that the dream felt very real; also he said that he even went to my wake in the confines of the dream and that he had wept. He was hesitant to tell me about the dream for fear of how I might feel. Searching my gut feeling… I was not upset at all. I admired his courage in at least telling me. I have my own ideas about why he had the dream and my interpretation of it; but before I get into what the dream means, I'm going to tell you about my thoughts on a “beautiful death” and what it used to be. In my poem “21 Questions” I stated that my idea of a beautiful death was being a gray old man in the center of my bed surrounded by my children and my children's children, passing away in my sleep with no pain and no regret. I know now that there is a death more beautiful than that.

For me to explain the journey of spiritual enlightenment that I have been experiencing over the past week would take too much time that we don't have. I will say that everything I thought about a beautiful death has changed and my interpretation of my friends dream was actually that he witnessed my spiritual death that's right spiritual death.
The death of who I used to be in the spiritual realm. I am extremely comfortable with that because my spirit in its previous state, was beating its head (metaphorically) against a spiritual wall. I based a lot of my actions on past experiences, which meant that my actions were more like reactions to something that did not exist. A past, an idea, a thought of what I thought should be. Actions (or reactions in this case) based in fear, with the notion that if you do something slightly differently, you will not experience the pain you once experienced.

A beautiful death to me now is a spiritual death. When you past that threshold of no longer concerning yourselves with matters of the petty, matters that don't matter and any thought process that is it routed in love… So yes I died… and I am proud to say that I did for I am reborn anew. In 24 hours I will be on a plane to Salerno Italy I do not know what awaits me there but it is no coincidence that I reached this peaceful place before I take one of the most important trips of my creative manifesto. There will be a video blog right here called the “What the Fuck Happened” series. I will be in Italy for 10 days… every 48 hours, I will be doing a different segment of what the fuck happened from a different location filming my interpretation of what the fuck is wrong with certain elements of the culture (Writing, poetry, literature, publishing and so forth) and what I believe we need to do to fix it.

Until next time folks…

Love light and more love…

"Love is the One True God" Chapter 1 of "The Endless Flight of the Black Butterfly"

The souls who are bestowed with divine wisdom don't look at the universe as complicated as we do. Those with such vast knowledge have a surprisingly simplified understanding of the universe. Their periodic table of elements consists only of two; female and male. Every nebula, star, Sun, quasar, comet or atom that emits or radiates energy is considered male. In contrast, any elements that have the ability to absorb energy are considered female. When both female and male elements combine in the astral plane a soul is born. The force that draws them together is love.

Love is the one true God, the Supreme Being, the king of all kings and the inhabitant of all things.

What is more powerful in the infinite vastness of nothingness, than the power to bring all things together? Nothing. With this wisdom, the soul communes with God only to split back into male and female parts as quickly as it came together. The wisdom of the universe is too extensive for a soul to master in its infancy. Mastery is the only way a soul can be at peace. A soul must seek this peace. This is the soul's purpose. No matter what chaos it came from. Together the feminine and masculine sides form a trinity with God. A bond that connects them to the core. During this bond, God gives them knowledge of self. Then God shows them what they must become to achieve everlasting peace. Knowledge of self is the starting point of their journey. Everlasting peace is the finish line. However, to master peace as one of its elements, a soul must inhabit the elements most crude form. The trail for all souls is to inhabit the flesh.

This will be a chaotic trail for the soul for there is nothing good of the flesh. The flesh is fearful and incapable of divine wisdom. The flesh is self-destructive and overly concerned with matters of the petty. Yet still a soul must carry this burden divided as two separate sides to grow stronger. God allows both feminine and masculine sides to be the architects of their own journey. The journey will consist of 10 lifetimes. Both feminine and masculine must learn how to love each other regardless of any hell they may face on Earth. They also relinquish all knowledge of God and each other. After both sides plan out their journey God makes it fit within the grand design. For every action and movement no matter how grand or small effects something else directly or indirectly. So each movement must be purposefully designed. God does this easily being free from the shackles of linear time and space. Placing both feminine and masculine sides exactly where they need to be, exactly when they need to be there.
