I’m the “Icing” on HIS cake!

Fear you put in my heart, cutting me with words and images

I just didn’t fit in with trying to be the person you wanted me to be

I mean isn’t that love, sacrificing everything for us

And what was “Us”, we wasn’t even connected

We were just on the surface, nowhere deep intellectually

I was afflicted with Love that was a non-existence

I hoped, I waited, patiently wanting you to love me

Thinking about the what if’s, what if I just get this, what if I just do that, what if do this better,

What if I, what if, what if, what if
I was so in love with You…. I didn’t even know what was right

Losing sight, because I was ok with you lying and cheating

Satisfied with you giving me “What was left”- Doggie Bag- Check Please!

The cost of your efforts was cheap, but mines was expensive

My description reads…. A beautiful disaster caught in the whirlwind of a tornado and destroyed within

My reflection in the mirror was broken into pieces

If you picked me up I will cut deeply: Anger, Pride, Bitterness, Sorrow, Jealousy, Hurt, Depression, Loneliness etc..

Feelings of worthlessness

I was in love with you and you deceived me

You meant the world to me

And when I finally came to my senses,

Hearing no longer impaired by your voice, sight cleared of your views,  I knew…..It was no longer you!

My focus was on him, He who’s seen me at my worst and believed I was the best

He who became poor so I could become rich,

He who wanted my heart not my body

He who spoke truth, words of elegance that will enlighten you.

He said trust me and he’ll direct my path, giving me life abundantly

And it wasn't “US” with him. (Defining “Us” Separately)

But it was you in I, Me in you. (One)

He was right there never forsaken me

Loving me faithfully; but he told me I had to choose

He said love me with your lips, but your heart is still with him.

Why you want Mr. Wrong, when you know what is right

Why go back, when you’ve seen the light?

In the midst of my triangle of unfaithfulness, he still loved me,

And he says “I’m fighting for you and I’m coming back with my deepest love

But you better be prepared; because I did everything for you to see I love you

Blood, Sweat & Tears

All because he wants a relationship with me

I said Forgive me, He said I already have

Just come back to Real Love again

Mr. Wrong……. The World! Holding me to expectations of what I should be and how I should live.

My Good dude is Christ!  His power and his love speaks of a true existence. The sun, the moon, the food on my plate, the breathe I take, the roof over my head.

I thank him….he is my source, my provider, my Father

And He says this one last thing to me, you are the last piece I needed on earth to make everything complete, you are the icing on the cake, so know your Self-Worth.

This Poet’s Pursuit of Pleasure is Passion in knowing who He Is:

The Icing on His Cake

Foot Note: What more can I say? Karee is one of the most sincere poets in the game. What you see is what you get and that is precisely why she is a member of this team. The next time we meet, "Poet" will add to the guest list, until then I'll see you in-between the margins...

"Mind's Oak"

Trying to remain level headed, cool, and collected.
Sitting back putting everything into perspective.
Find it hard at times, with my mind racing in all
directions.
Jumping from different topics and ideas slightly from a prior encounter or situation.
But I store them in my mental vault and treat them like life's investments.
Which they are if you consider my growth as a
manifestation.
Somewhat of a rehabilitation of my childish ways
in previous phases.
Still have some old habits in need of changing.
I don't consider them a factor in this transformation, unless they hold me back from
what I'm chasing.
A better me.
But their are so many imperfections in perfection.
Causes me to question how will I know if
I obtained that.

I'll never truly know, so why not branch into
another area of confusion.
Then again that's all life is or seems to be.
Lessons buried inside of mistakes that illusions
causes us to crave.
Maybe that's why there's a self achievement or humbling grieving at the end of every
phase.
Either way don't hold yourself back from your true potential.
Just understand with every chapter of your life, is a story you have to live through.

Foot Note:

The Collective is a conglomerate of poets, storytellers and singers that consists of 4 members. Many who have come to the shows or support our collaborative efforts, often do not know what to "Make" of such a group. So this would seem to be a perfect opportunity to explain the history behind this group and try to provide some clarity for those who are curious to know our ambitious agenda.

There is nothing new under the Sun. I am sure there are artists somewhere who have unified like this, even though few come to mind. I cannot speak for other groups but our agenda is a complex form of simplicity. We are attempting to blur the lines between the spoken word, music & theater. Each show sets the bar higher for the next one & creatively, this team has found its stride. So much so it seems sinful not to share any writing from this group or its individual members on this blog.

Kat (Owner of Kat's Cafe) told me that her spot (The coziest spot in all of Atlanta) was our home, and that we were always welcome to perform there. We were grateful and humbled by that. I would like to follow suit by featuring guest blogs written by my team on this  blog. From left to right the members are as follows. Byron Walter, Karee, Poet & myself. The details of how we've come to be are too long to write for a single blog. So we taped it...

The Instigator

I am the instigator

Here to challenge everything I identify as a lie

These lies try to define you even though they did
not create you

Like the media telling you undernourished and
whorish is an ideal look for women

We should be insulted because we know better

I am the instigator

Here to challenge every spirit in line with mine to
unify

These spirits examine their design and report what
they know to be true

Like love is the obvious answer to all questions
from the blind of heart

God should be consulted when we need to know
better

I am the instigator

Here to challenge the notion that black is worthless
and that it must die

These hairs of wool, this skin of bronze, original
man, respect due

They try to tell us through imagery we are
incapable of loving each other

We should have revolted because we knew better

I am the instigator

here to challenge the notion that the written word
has somehow become disposable

These words may provoke your thought and that's
all we're here to do

They suggest that critical thinkers are rebellious
trouble makers

We should be assaulted with the frequencies of
better

I am the instigator
